Mathis is a town in the county of San Patricio, Texas, USA. At the 2010 census, the population was 4,942. When the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway laid tracks through San Patricio County in 1887, Thomas H. Mathis was given naming rights by donating 300 acres (1.2 km2) for a townsite and school. His brother and Mathis. M. Mathis was in the area holding 37,000 acres (150 km2).
